The Stanford Women's tennis team started the season yesterday against U.C. Davis. I wish I had a lot of exciting drama to write about, but it just wasn't that exciting. U.C. Davis certainly did their best, but the juggernaut that is Stanford Women's tennis started off as I would expect.
In the doubles, Stanford lost only lost one game in each of the 3 matches. I was anticipating seeing Anne Yelsey playing with Celia Durkin, a matchup I predicted last year. I think this duo can be another #1 doubles team in the country. Anne shared that spot with Alice Barnes last year. I was also looking forward to seeing freshman Lindsay Brudette play. She teamed up with Jessica Nguyen for another dominant performance. At # 3 is yet another incredible combination with Whitney Deason and Theresa Logar, who sailed through their match.
The singles was similarly uneventful. If your # 6 singles is Lindsay Burdette, the opponents are going to have a rough afternoon. Incredible depth is the hallmark of this team since I've been watching. Except for a few lapses in focus, everyone seemed to play very well.
That's it for this match. A more interesting match is slated for this afternoon with Fresno State in town.
